Fátima Freitas & Associados is one of the longest-established and most preeminent law firms in Angola.

Over the years we have built a reputation based on technical expertise with an international outlook, and we are committed to providing effective solutions to our clients in their most important and challenging projects.

We started working together more than 25 years ago with a focus predominantly towards the wave of multinational investors coming to Angola. From the outset, we have helped companies establish themselves in the country, structure their operations, and subsequently protect their assets and interests.

As the Angolan economy diversified and our clients’ needs broadened, so did our expertise and reach. We expanded from Luanda to Cabinda – the center of Angola’s oil
& gas industry – in 1999 and to the port city of Lobito in 2007. In 2018 we moved to a new, modern office in downtown Luanda, overlooking the bay, always close to our clients.

We represent the most influential companies involved in every sector of the Angolan economy, including oil & gas, renewable energies, mining, infrastructure development, agriculture, aviation, and transportation and logistics. Our extensive experience and long history of providing legal advice to local and foreign investors have helped shape the business landscape in Angola, and each day we are more involved in assisting to bring new investment and companies to our country, thereby contributing to much needed economic diversification.

Today we are a firm of over 30 lawyers, including 6 partners, with a wide national and international reach and a will to continue growing and strengthening our ranks.

This is our story so far. Our future is still being written.

Our Values

Our business is to make your business a success.

Our values derive from the goal of creating a positive impact in all that we do.

Every day, we work to create a culture that fosters altruism, solidarity, reliability, teamwork and constant learning, with a long-term view to better serve our clients, be efficient and practical, and make a positive contribution to our clients’ businesses and our communities, while strengthening our country’s justice system. We constantly seek to provide high quality and value-added advice and are fully committed to the highest degree of ethical behavior in the legal profession. We are bound not only to the rules of the Angolan Bar Association but also to the rules and ethical principles applicable to other international jurisdictions in which the Miranda Alliance is present.

We have implemented robust procedures to detect and avoid conflicts of interest and also to contribute to the prevention and fight against corruption and money laundering, and we have adopted a strict Code of Conduct (available here) based not only on Angolan legislation but also on the best international practices, with well-established compliance practices.

Fátima Freitas & Associados is also strongly committed to diversity and inclusion, as showed by the structure of our staff and partnership, and at the forefront of ESG compliance and consultancy in Angola.

Fátima Freitas & Associados is one of the founding members and the Angolan associate of the Miranda Alliance, an international association of Law Firms present in 16 jurisdictions, in Africa and beyond.

Our relationships with the Miranda Alliance and international firms outside the Alliance have helped us assist businesses of all sizes to navigate the increasingly complex legal landscape in Angola and elsewhere.

We have worked together with Miranda & Associados serving clients in Angola for over two decades, and it was thus natural for us to become the first international member of the Miranda Alliance, founded in 2005. The sharing of knowledge and experience within the Alliance members and its consistent growth over the years means we are now able to serve our clients’ needs in a truly integrated manner, in all markets where we operate.

The purpose of the Miranda Alliance involves the long-term sharing of people, knowledge and information, and for this reason we have put in place a structure where lawyers are able to work together with a single purpose, irrespective of their location, nationality or language. We are an integrated team of professionals and not simply a loose association of firms, and geographical distance, language and cultural differences are not obstacles, as the same fundamental values are shared by all.

All the offices and firms comprising the Miranda Alliance are independent practices, owned by local professionals of the highest caliber and deeply-rooted in the respective local markets and legal communities. These professionals add priceless value, by sharing experience, know-how, and a common goal: to provide a high-quality service to clients, all aligned with the best international standards.

Today, the Miranda Alliance brings together hundreds of lawyers in 16 jurisdictions, spread across four continents: Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Macao (China), Mozambique, Portugal, Republic of the Congo, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal and Timor-Leste, plus one liaison office in the United States (Houston).
